Surface Contamination

Surface contamination monitoring is crucial in various fields involving ionizing radiation to ensure safety and compliance with protection standards.

GM Detectors

Radiation Alert Ranger®
Ranger EXP
Ranger EXP

GM detectors such as the Radiation Alert Ranger® and Ranger EXP are commonly used to detect and measure ionizing radiation on surfaces.

Here are some common applications where a GM Detector is used.

Nuclear Power Plants: Monitoring of surfaces around the plant and the inspection of equipment, tools, and personnel.

Radiation Protection: Occupational health and safety monitoring for workers who handle radiation that is used, stored, or transported.

Emergency Response: Rapid assessment during a radiation incident. Ensuring safety of emergency responders and the public.

Environmental Monitoring:  Monitoring contamination in the natural ecosystem.

Medical Facilities: Monitoring medical personnel and patients during nuclear medicine procedures.  Checking surfaces and equipment for contamination.

Industrial Applications: Screening incoming packages. Inspection of facilities that use or produce radioactive materials.

Research Laboratories: Screening surfaces where radioactive isotopes are used.  Checking equipment, tools, and workspace for contamination.

Waste Management: Checking equipment, tools, and workspace for contamination.

Customs and Security: Screen cargo and packages at border Crossings.

 Scintillation Detectors

                GammaView

A scintillation detector, such as the Radiation Alert® GammaView are commonly used in various applications involving surface contamination due to their ability to provide more detailed and specific information about the type and energy of ionizing radiation.

All of the applications using a GM detector will also be seen here. The advantage of the scintillation detector is the sensitivity.

Radiation Spectrum Analyzers

URSA II
                   URSA II

Radiation spectrum analyzers, such as the Radiation Alert® URSA II are commonly used in various applications involving surface contamination due to their ability to provide more detailed and specific information about the type and energy of ionizing radiation.

This instrument does everything the GammaView can do and more, such as, identifying the what the specific isotope it is measuring.
